Honor View 20 – World’s First Punch-hole Display Phone

Honor View 20 – World’s First Punch-hole Display Phone

6
Huawei’s sub-brand Honor is going to welcoming the Indian smartphone market firstly in 2019 with a flagship-grade model named Honor View 20.
Honor unveiled this flagship in China on December 26 last year, where the global launch will be held in Paris on January 22.

In 2018, where we saw the trend of notch display smartphones and some even tried to go bezel-less by using the sliding and motorized roller mechanism for the front-facing camera.
Now, when all debates revolving around the punch hole display design and Samsung has been already teased that its S10 line up will come with this design but the View 20 is one step ahead. As this is going to be the first smartphone in the Indian market with punch hole display.
Though it has been already unveiled in China, so we have some more information on this flagship smartphone.
Let’s come and check out.

The front of Honor view 20 brings an edge-to-edge display with minimalist bezels around the screen.Body design: bye bye notch, hello punch hole

The notch has gone and the punch hole design is here to support the front-facing camera.
If you take a closer look on the screen, you can see a small cut-out between the top bezel and the glass panel, where the earpiece and ambient light sensor are relocated.
The honor View 20 has a 6.4 inch full HD Plus OLED display which will give you the experience of full-view. There is a small chin down below but that’s doesn’t matter.
On the right side of the phone, there is volume rocker and power button positioned correctly so that they will be comfortably reachable for most of the users.
At the bottom, there is a single speaker grill for fire out sound at a decent volume. On the top, there is the most loved headphone jack, which will be a great advantage over the competition.
On the back honor used the nanolithography technology to create a new visual design in the shape of ‘V’ whenever you tilt the phone forward and back into the light.

Display

The 6.4-inch display of honor View 20 (Honor V20 – In China) comes with a 19:9 screen ratio with resolution 1080×2310 pixels and 330ppi pixel density.
The small punch hole for front facing camera placed at the top left corner of the screen.
The camera module sits directly under the light guide plate (LGP) and uses a technique known as pixel transitioning normally used to allow light to penetrate through without a hole in the liquid crystal layer.
This was achieved by Honor by combining the hole within the layers of the LCD itself, rather than just like drilling space in the pixels and being done with it.
This designing improves the photo performance with the method due to less light bleed around the edge.
Honor’s Design Chief, David Yuan, told that “The company had done extensive research to figure out where users would prefer to see a hole in the display. By far the most unpopular option was in the exact middle, where it was most visible. Eventually, a hole in the top left corner was decided upon, because it would interfere least with full-screen games in landscape orientation.

Camera and Sensors

Camera section is the biggest highlight of Honor view 20 as it brings a 48MP primary camera of aperture f/1.8 and a secondary 3D lens.
Honor used its new TOF (Time OF Flight) in order to improve the 3D object recognition. Honor also used the Artificial Intelligence in its camera system, so that you will get perfect picture quality every time.

Is MSG Really So Bad?

Is MSG Really So Bad?

Some nutrition info gets passed around so much that nobody bothers to think about whether it actually makes any sense—or whether it’s accurate. Case in point: Monosodium glutamate (MSG), popularly known as “that stuff in Chinese food that gives you a headache”. But is that even true?

It’s important to know the backstory. MSG is a seasoning made from sodium and glutamate, an amino acid that’s found naturally in certain foods like tomatoes, soy sauce, and aged cheeses. Glutamate was discovered as a flavor enhancer in 1908 by a Japanese professor, who pinpointed glutamate as the substance that gave his favorite seaweed broth its rich, savory taste. Glutamate is unique because it hits the fabled “fifth taste” called umami (Japanese for “delicious”), a decidedly savory and meaty flavor. The professor filed for a patent to produce MSG, and it became widely used to season food.

But in 1968, a letter appeared in The New England Journal of Medicine from a doctor claiming he experienced heart palpitations and flushing after eating in Chinese restaurants. He chalked it up to MSG in the food, and the editors of the journal dubbed it “Chinese Restaurant Syndrome”.

Anecdotal reports started swirling about MSG and the symptoms it supposedly triggered, from headaches and nausea to tightness in the chest. But scientific evidence was thin. So in the 1990s, the FDA asked an independent scientific group to investigate. The group concluded that MSG is safe, though they said some sensitive people might get short-term symptoms (like headache or drowsiness) if they consume 3 grams or more of MSG (a typical serving in food is less than .5 grams).

The FDA classifies MSG as “generally recognized as safe”, the same designation that ingredients like sugar and baking soda have. They say the body metabolizes MSG the same way it does the natural glutamate found in food. Also of note: The International Headache Society no longer includes MSG on their list of headache triggers.

But there’s still a cloud of concern around it, and you’ll spot plenty of brands calling out “no MSG” on their labels. So what should you do?

First, consider the upside to using MSG. The seasoning increases flavor and adds depth but has two-thirds less sodium than regular table salt--and you don’t need very much to boost taste.

Then try it out yourself. You can find it in the seasoning aisle under names like Accent and Aji-no-moto. Sprinkle a little bit into a casserole or batch of soup and see if you like the way it makes your food taste--and the way it makes you feel. Because in my opinion, it’s much better to know the facts (and try it firsthand) than to rely on rumor.
